Tourists were trapped in an elevator in the Mirante do Vale building, in the central region of São Paulo, last Thursday morning (30). Around 15 people were inside the equipment for an hour.
Physiotherapist Hércules Mattos, from Manaus (AM), told CNN that, after taking photos at the Sampa Sky attraction (which is on the 42nd floor of the building), tourists took the elevators and were instructed to go up to the 44th floor.
“A man who was cleaning the place said: 'This elevator can now be used, it is undergoing maintenance, but it is already working. But you have to go up to the 44th floor.' And then we went up”, said Mattos.
The elevator reached the 44th floor, but, according to him, it got stuck when going down. “We pressed the intercom and the guy told us not to worry, that they would see what was happening and try to open the elevator”, continued the physiotherapist.
During the period in which the group was trapped, a man became ill and had to sit on the floor.
“How do you do this on a holiday in a place where you pay an expensive ticket and stop the elevator, for God's sake don't you do it, there would have to be a technician here on duty”, asked one of the tourists.
People in the elevator sent messages to Sampa Sky's profile on a social network to ask for help.

Sampa Sky regretted what happened and highlighted that it provided support to the visitors.
“Even though Atlas Schindler and the Mirante do Vale condominium administration are responsible for the elevators, we value the well-being of our visitors. We also inform you that this elevator was opened approximately two months ago after a total renovation process with complete replacement of its mechanisms”, said the company.
The condominium administration said it contacted Atlas Schindler and sent a team for service and technical assistance. “However, Atlas Schindler’s service has in fact been slow, although we have a local service point with satisfactory business hours,” said the administrator.
A CNN tries to contact Atlas Schindler, but has not yet received a response.
