After bus accident, UFSM decrees mourning 3 days

After the accident with a bus that took 31 students and three professors from the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), the institution decreed an official three -day mourning. The occurrence was on the morning of Friday (4) in the city of Imigrante (RS), about 130 kilometers from Porto Alegre.

So far, at least seven deaths have been confirmed. According to firefighters, among the fatalities, six are female and one male. The names have not yet been released.

“Unable to follow with activities normally at the institution, UFSM decrees official three -day mourning, with suspension of academic and administrative activities today (04) and tomorrow (05) throughout the university. Essential activities are maintained,” the institution said.

According to the Immigrant City Hall, 26 injured people were rescued. Of these, 18 went to the Ouro Branco Hospital in Teuntonia (RS); Two to Bruno Born Hospital in Lajeado (RS); and six to Hospital Estrela, in Estrela (RS).

According to UFSM, students and teachers who were in the vehicle are students of the Polytechnic College Landscape Course. The institution says it sent a team to the site to accompany the rescue.

The accident occurred on the Rota do Sol access road, near a metallurgical industry. According to preliminary information, the vehicle left the track on the left side, lost its brakes and ended up descending a bluff.

The highway where the accident occurred was blocked in both directions to meet the occurrence.
