Elon Musk, Twitter’s largest shareholder, decided not to join the company’s board of directors, CEO Parag Agrawai said on social media in the early hours of Monday (11).
Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, bought a 9.2% stake in Twitter early last week and received an offer to join the board last Tuesday.
“Elon’s appointment to the committee would be made official on April 9 (Saturday), but Elon informed that morning that he would no longer serve on the board,” Agrawai wrote in a statement.
“I believe this is for the best. We have and always value the contribution of our shareholders, whether or not they are on our board. Elon is our largest shareholder and we will remain open to contributions from him,” said Twitter CEO,
With more than 80 million followers on the social network, Musk decided to buy the company’s shares days after questioning Twitter’s commitment to freedom of expression. Since then, the billionaire has shared some of his ideas for the social network, such as the possibility of editing tweets and a premium subscription.
