The president of the Regional Council of Medicine of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Cremerj), Clovis Bersot Munhoz, resigned this Thursday (21). According to the agency, an investigation was opened to investigate a complaint of sexual harassment involving the chairman of the board. He is accused by a nursing technician of saying sexual words during surgery.
The procedure will be forwarded to the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM), which will assign the case to another regional, with the aim of ensuring exemption in the conduct of the process.
In a statement, Cremerj states that it repudiates any type of harassment and works with the authorities to curb this unethical and criminal practice.
According to the Civil Police, after opening an investigation, the orthopedist was indicted for sexual harassment. The procedure was forwarded to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which requested further investigations from the police station.
In August of last year, Cremerj was notified by a health unit about a procedure filed at the 9th Police Station of Catete, in the south of the capital, against Munhoz. The agency was also informed about a labor lawsuit filed by the alleged victim against the doctor.
At the time, an administrative procedure was initiated in the Council and clarifications were requested regarding the case. According to the institution, the chairman of the board provided all the information and denied that he had committed sexual harassment against the nursing technician.
The orthopedist also reported that, on that day, he had performed other surgeries and that other people were present in the room, such as doctors, nurses and scrub nurses.
According to Cremerj, after an internal investigation, nothing was found in the name of Munhoz, which is why he took over the presidency of the body in February 2022.
