After hospitalization for Covid-19, writer Mario Vargas Llosa is discharged

Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa, 86, was discharged from hospital after being admitted to a clinic in Madrid, Spain, for complications related to Covid-19.

The novelist’s daughter, Morgana Vargas Llosa, posted on Twitter this Monday morning (25th) that her father will continue his recovery at home.

“Thank you to life-saving science and the medical staff for their dedication. We will always be very grateful to them,” he wrote.

“They have been fighting this pandemic for years. All our admiration for you,” she concluded.

Vargas Llosa had already shown improvement in his clinical condition over the weekend.

“Thanks to the treatment, his condition is progressing favorably. He and his family are grateful for the expressions of affection we are receiving and ask the press to respect their privacy,” wrote a statement signed by the writer’s three children.

One of the most expressive names in Latin American literature, Vargas Llosa has an extensive literary work, which includes novels such as Tia Julia and the scribbler, A festa do Bode and Travessuras da menina más. The writer also signs the essays The Civilization of the Spectacle and The Call of the Tribe.

Awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2010, the writer has also received awards such as Cervantes, Prince of Asturias, PEN/Nabokov and Grinzane Cavour.
