The six o’clock soap opera, “Girl of the Moment” was highlighted internationally this Monday (20). Like this Fernanda Torres protagonist of the film “I’m Still Here” which won an article this month, TV Globo’s Brazilian production gained focus by the American magazine Variety .

In addition to focusing on the plot, the vehicle interviewed the author of the novel, Alessandra Poggi who mentioned that she was thrilled with the audience’s reception of the story, set in the late 1950s.

The serial addresses different contexts, with emphasis on social transformation, the role of women in that scenario, the influence of black culture on the historical formation of the country and love.

“We had just won the World Cup for the first time. It was the year that Bossa Nova was invented, we had Cinema Novo, the construction of our capital, Brasília… So I started to investigate what wasn’t so good in 1958, because things couldn’t have been so idyllic for everyone”, quotes in the chat.

Next, she adds that in her work, she likes to investigate who is happy in society and who is not thriving.

“In 1958, men cheated on their wives constantly; society was very sexist and racist. Children of divorced mothers suffered a lot. Queer people couldn’t live their truth. So I wanted to talk about these issues, which are unfortunately still relevant today. I couldn’t ignore that”, he adds.

Alessandra Poggi also mentioned the possibility of addressing heavy issues in a family space, in a six o’clock soap opera and cited his belief that “every story can be told in any space”, as long as the authors have “the right approach”.

For Variety, the author of “Garota do Momento” also mentioned that she loves following the soap opera when it is on air and also checks social media to check the public’s impression.

“I love it when my manicurist brings it up, when I hear people talking about it in the supermarket. People write to me and tell me about the things they like and the things they don’t like,” he says.

Finally, the international vehicle highlighted Poggi’s speech, who says he believes that Brazilian soap operas have great international potential. “Brazilian soap operas have traveled the world since the beginning. I was in Chile once, and one of my soap operas was on TV. It’s displayed as a closed work, so it has a different quality, but it’s still amazing to see the response to it.”
