After “I’m Still Here”, Walter Salles plans a new film: “Near Future”

The Brazilian director Walter Salles 68, is currently promoting the feature film “I’m Still Here” starring the actors Fernanda Torres, 59, and Selton Mello, 52. While the film is a hit with critics and participating in the main film awards circuits, the filmmaker has another production in progress.

In an interview with the North American podcast The Next Best Picture, Walter Salles said that it won’t take as long, as usual, to launch a new work. Before “I’m Still Here”, the director had worked on the feature film “On the road” launched 12 years ago.

“I already have a script with two writers from Uruguay that is ready. Maybe there will be filming in the near future”, said Salles.

The director did not go into details, such as the plot or recording schedule.

“I’m Still Here” is an adaptation of the book of the same name written by Marcelo Rubens Paiva. The story takes place in the 1970s, during the most intense period of the military dictatorship in Brazil, and follows the trajectory of the Paiva family, made up of Rubens (played by Selton Mello), Eunice (played by Fernanda Torres) and their children.

The family’s life is completely transformed when, on one fateful day, Rubens Paiva is taken by undercover soldiers and disappears without leaving a trace .

The cast also features Valentina Herszage (“She for Her”), Maeve Jinkings (“Toll”), Antonio Saboia (“Private Desert”), Olivia Torres (“Continent”), Humberto Carrão (“Aquarius”), Dan Stulbach (“Women in Love”), Charles Fricks (“Land and Passion”), Caio Horowicz (“Word of Mouth”), Daniel Dantas (“Pega Pega) and more.
