After the death of digital influencer Aline Ferreira, 33, last Tuesday (2) after having undergone an aesthetic procedure at a clinic in Goiânia (GO), medical entities have warned about the risks of injecting Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) .
This Wednesday (4), the Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD) and the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM) issued notes reinforcing that only doctors are authorized to perform invasive procedures, in accordance with Law 12,842/2013.
The person responsible for the procedure, Grazielly da Silva Barbosa is the owner of the clinic, which was closed due to lack of a license and the presentation of a responsible professional with the necessary qualifications. She is under arrest. Grazielly presented herself as a biomedical scientist, but had no training in the area.
Unpredictable and undesirable results include incurable and persistent reactions. Among the effects are local edema, inflammatory processes, allergic reactions and granuloma formation; and late, years after the injection.
Aline’s procedure was performed on June 23 and she began to feel unwell a few days later and was hospitalized in the Federal District, in Brasília.
PMMA injection It is not recommended for generalized aesthetic purposes by several medical entities warns the SBD. The substance is considered a form of treatment for severe lipoatrophy, such as in patients living with HIV/AIDS.
Emergency preparedness
The entities warn that procedures such as aesthetic correction of the buttocks must be carried out in health establishments, such as doctors’ offices, clinics and hospitals, places where it is possible to observe the biosafety requirements of the procedures.
Preliminary exams
Invasive cosmetic procedures must be preceded by a medical consultation and specific exams to reduce the chances of complications, reiterates the CFM. The agency also states that, under any circumstances, the procedures must only be performed in environments that comply with the requirements of the Health Surveillance Agency and the CFM.
Prior evaluation of the patient with responsible medical care is necessary to proceed with invasive procedures.
