President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) landed, this Saturday (15), in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, at around 7:15 am (Brasília time), after leaving China.
From 10:15 am an official reception ceremony is scheduled. At 11:05 am, Lula will attend a meeting with the president of the United Arab Emirates and emir of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
From 11:45 am, participate in an iftar — an evening meal during Ramadan —, which is offered by the president of the United Arab Emirates. At 1:45 pm, the head of the Brazilian Executive holds a press conference.
Agreements that must be concluded
At the meeting, Lula and Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan should address trade agreements, bilateral investments and the environment.
Last year, bilateral trade moved US$ 5.7 billion, an increase of 74% compared to the volume of 2021. Brazilian agricultural products account for almost 60% of exports to the United Arab Emirates.
Beef and chicken are among the best-selling items in the country. Brazil is the world’s largest exporter of halal chicken, produced based on the precepts and traditions of Islam.
The United Arab Emirates are the biggest investors in the Middle East in the Brazilian market, with approximately US$ 10 billion.
The environment will also be on the agenda. The nation will host the 28th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in December this year.
There is investment by the country in renewable energies and in the end of net emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050, which is in line with the Brazilian government.

In a meeting in Beijing, on Friday (14), Lula and the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, signed 15 agreements involving the governments of both countries.
In addition, another 20 commercial agreements were signed between companies and public entities in Brazil and China. Part of the agreements had already been anticipated by the CNN Caio Junqueira.
Among the measures between the governments is a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Finance of China to promote cooperation and collaboration on projects of mutual interest, such as public-private partnerships (PPPs), infrastructure and fundraising.
In the area of communications, there is an understanding between the Brazilian ministry, the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China for exchange policies, help between research institutions and contribution to the information technology industry and communication.
There is also the 2023-2032 Space Cooperation plan, which determines the bilateral activities between the National Space Administration of China and the Brazilian Space Agency over a period of 10 years.
It was also decided to establish terms for the reinstatement of the trade facilitation working group of the economic-commercial subcommittee of the Sino-Brazilian High Level Coordination and Cooperation Commission (Cosban).

- Memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services of the Federative Republic of Brazil and the National Development and Reform Commission of the People’s Republic of China for the promotion of investment and industrial cooperation;
- Memorandum of Understanding on Strengthening Cooperation in Investments in the Digital Economy between the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services of the Federative Republic of Brazil;
- Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) between the Ministry of Finance of Brazil and the Ministry of Finance of China;
- Memorandum of understanding on cooperation in information and communications between the Ministry of Communications of the Federative Republic of Brazil, the National Telecommunications Agency of the Federative Republic of Brazil and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China;
- Television co-production agreement between the government of the Federative Republic of Brazil and the government of the People’s Republic of China;
- Memorandum of Understanding between the China Media Group and the Institutional Relations Secretariat of the Presidency of the Federative Republic of Brazil;
- Cooperation agreement between the Xinhua News Agency and Empresa Brasil de Comunicação;
- Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight against Hunger, the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture of the Federative Republic of Brazil and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China on cooperation for social development and rural and fight against hunger and poverty;
- 2023-2032 space cooperation plan between the National Space Administration of China and the Brazilian Space Agency;
- Brazil-China work plan for cooperation in electronic certification for products of animal origin;
- Protocol between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of the Federative Republic of Brazil and the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China on sanitary and quarantine requirements for processed terrestrial animal protein to be exported from Brazil to China.
