After Machado de Assis, US influencer is impressed by Clarice Lispector

After being enchanted by works of Machado de Assis American influencer Courtney Henning Novak was surprised by another author of Brazilian literature. This Tuesday (16), she revealed that she started reading “The Hour of the Star” in Clarice Lispector, and said she was “obsessed” with the writer.

The influencer explained that, after praising works such as “Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas” and “Dom Casmurro”, she began to receive several recommendations for works by the Brazilian writer, who was born in Ukraine.

“How can you continue your life normally after reading Clarice? (…) Did this woman invent a way of writing? What can we call what she writes?”, asked Courtney in a video posted on TikTok, showing that she chose one of Clarice Lispector’s best-known novels.

Impressed by the writing, she revealed that upon reading the dedication of the work, “in the same way that happened with Machado, I fell madly in love”.

“Sometimes it’s hard to pick just a few favorite quotes without wanting to share the entire book. It’s a sign that the book really resonated with you,” Courtney said.

The influencer also said that Clarice Lispector “created her own way of writing”. Finally, she highlighted that she intends to read all of the writer’s works. “I’m obsessed with this woman and I need to read everything she’s ever written”.

On her TikTok profile, the influencer is taking on a personal challenge of reading a book from each country in the world. However, she has already “broken the rule” by reading two works by Machado de Assis and, now, by Clarice Lispector.
