After meeting with city hall, doctors hold strike for Wednesday (19) in São Paulo

After meeting with the Secretary of Health Edson Aparecido this Monday (17), the Union of Doctors of São Paulo (Simesp) decided to keep the strike scheduled for next Wednesday (19) for lack of agreement with the municipal administration.

An act is scheduled for 3 pm in front of the city hall, requesting the hiring of doctors for the Basic Health Units (UBS), better infrastructure, readjustment for the category, supply of supplies and medicines.

Aparecido’s proposal to hire 140 doctors is seen as insufficient by the union for the 469 UBSs. “No figures or concrete deadlines were presented for the resolution”, they say.

In the municipal network, at the moment, 3,193 health professionals are away due to respiratory diseases according to a survey by the CNN Agency. There are 1,403 with Covid-19 and 1,683 with flu syndrome.

“Our demands regarding not only hiring, but also new health structures to deal with spontaneous demand were also not met. No contingency plan or replacement plan was presented for professionals on leave”, declared Victor Dourado, president of Simesp.

In a note, the Municipal Health Department states that 50% of overtime for 2021 would initially be paid and that the other half of the bank of hours would be paid by the end of the first quarter.

However, Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) authorized that up to 100% of the bank of hours accumulated until December 31 of last year be carried out this month together with salaries.

“Furthermore, from now on, all overtime and overtime shifts will be paid within the payroll of the respective month, including for servers,” they say.

Aparecido also stated during the meeting that all organizations that partner with the city hall have already received authorization to hire 700 doctors and nursing teams to meet the increased demand in health facilities.

From next Saturday (22) the UBSs will serve in a system of poles. The posts that have greater demand will receive more professionals.

“If there is a stabilization or reduction in the number of cases of Covid-19 in the next two weeks, the opening of UBSs on weekends will be suspended”, informs the ministry. Daily operation was extended from this Monday until 10 pm.

The points will be formalized to the union this Tuesday (18).
