After meeting with Lula, Petrobras expects Prates’ first nominees this Friday (27)

Petrobras’ board expects to receive this Friday (27th) the first names of those appointed by Jean Paul Prates to assume positions in the company. The expectation of sources heard by the CNN is that the nomination process begins with direct advisors, who will help Prates to become aware of the current situation of the oil company.

The directors who will run the company’s day-to-day activities should wait for a second moment. There are currently eight department heads at Petrobras. The expectation of interlocutors of those involved in this musical chairs is that at least half is changed.

Anyone nominated to take a position at Petrobras must pass a background check by the compliance department. The difference is that the president can ignore any vetoes for direct advisors or second-tier officials.

Directors must necessarily be approved by the Board of Directors. Even though five of the 11 council members are remnants of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government, Prates’ unanimous approval was seen as a sign of strength and a vote of confidence.

This does not necessarily mean that representatives of shareholders and nominees from previous management will accept any name. From fluent English to a compatible curriculum, there are a series of requirements for anyone who assumes a position at the top of the company.

In the event that an executive is unsuccessful or commits an unlawful act, technically the Board members who approved it despite compliance vetoes could end up being co-responsible.

In the late afternoon of this Thursday (26th) the newly sworn-in president of Petrobras met with president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. One of the agendas of the meeting was precisely the names that will assume positions in the state-owned company in the PT administration.
