After receiving honors, Mano Brown is elected ‘Icon of the Year’ by GQ

This Tuesday (05), singer Mano Brown received the title ‘Icon of the Year’ at the Men Of The Year 2023 carried out by Globo’s GQ Brasil magazine.

Last month, the rapper who is part of and leads Racionais MC’s also received other titles: “Doctor Honoris Causa” granted to him by the Federal University of Southern Bahia, a proposal designed to celebrate 50 years of Hip-Hop and also by Unicamp, which granted the same title to the rap group that he, Edi Rock, KL Jay and Ice Blue belong to. The Racionais MC’s were recognized as “public intellectuals who dialogue with Brazilian social thought”.

According to GQ Brasil, university honors are still something new for the singer who hasn’t even finished high school. “I’m flattered by the recognition, but it’s an achievement that includes the entire rap movement. This is the fight of Racionais, Sabotage, Facção Central, MV Bill, Dexter, RZO, Djonga, Emicida and many others. Our biggest prize; the rest is disguise and theater. Clothes from Louis Vuitton, Gucci, this becomes entertainment, but not the purpose”, shares Mano Brown.

Still on the Men of the Year 2023 awards, it is worth mentioning that GQ awarded the title of Woman of the Year to Beatriz Haddad Maia, the 27-year-old Brazilian tennis player who was ranked 11th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) world rankings.
