The states of Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais have recorded a high volume of rain since last weekend.
On the afternoon of Tuesday (29), the city of Araxá, in the Triângulo Mineiro, had streets completely flooded. The storm lasted about 40 minutes and the volume of rain reached 30 millimeters.
The storm caused inconvenience to residents. Cars ended up being submerged and some people were stranded waiting for help.
According to a note sent by the Municipality of Araxá, “a task force was set up through the Secretariats of Public Security, Social Action, Urban Services, Public Works, Municipal Civil Defense and the Fire Department to monitor and carry out measures at affected points. . There were no reports of injuries.”
The forecast is that the rains will continue this Wednesday (30) in the Southeast. According to meteorologist Maria Clara Sassaki, from Climatempo, these two extremes of heat and heavy rain are being influenced by the El Niño phenomenon in the Pacific Ocean.
Since last weekend, the city of Rio de Janeiro has been in a state of mobilization after the landslides in the communities of Morro da Formiga, north zone, and also in Rocinha and Laranjeiras, both in the south zone of the capital.
