After records, HBO announces second season of the series “The Last of US”

With the title of highest debut for the first episode of a series on HBO Max, “The Last of Us” has been renewed for a second season.

The drama based on Naughty Dog’s PlayStation game outperformed the pilot episodes of House of the Dragon and Euphoria in its first 24 hours in Latin America.

The series by Craig Mazin (“Chernobyl”) and Neil Druckmann (“The Last of Us”) was also a success on social media, trending on Twitter on its debut and accumulating more than 100 million views with trailers and teasers.

“I am humbly honored and very excited that so many people have followed and connected with our narrative of Joel and Ellie’s journey. The collaboration with Craig Mazin, our incredible cast and crew, and HBO exceeded my already high expectations,” said Neil Druckmann, Executive Producer.

“Now we are absolutely delighted to be able to do it again with season two! On behalf of everyone at Naughty Dog and PlayStation, thank you!”

The series takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed, where Joel (Pedro Pascal), a seasoned survivor, is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of a quarantine zone. The two characters must cross the United States and fight to survive against monsters infected by a fungus.

New episodes of the series premiere on Sundays at 11 pm on HBO Max and HBO.
