The Hollywood Film Academy announced on Friday that its board had banned Will Smith from any of its events, including the Oscars, for ten years. The decision comes after the best actor award winner slapped presenter Chris Rock on stage at the ceremony.
The actor resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on April 1. “I am resigning from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and will accept any other consequences the Board deems appropriate,” Smith said in a statement shared with the CNN by your advisor.
David Rubin, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, said at the time that the organization had received and accepted Smith’s “immediate resignation.”
“We will continue to advance our disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for violations of the Academy’s Standards of Conduct, ahead of our next board meeting scheduled for April 18,” added Rubin.
On March 28, after the incident, Smith apologized for his act. “Violence in all its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Oscars was unacceptable and unforgivable.”
