After speaking by Bolsonaro, Petrobras says it does not anticipate price increases

Petrobras said on Monday that it does not anticipate decisions to readjust fuel prices, after President Jair Bolsonaro said earlier that the state-owned company will announce another variation in values in about 20 days.

In his statement in Italy, Bolsonaro said he knew about the possible future price adjustment unofficially.

In a statement to the market, however, the oil company stressed that “it does not anticipate readjustment decisions” and “that there is no decision taken by its Executive Market and Prices Group (GEMP) that has not yet been announced to the market.”

According to the state oil company, product price adjustments are carried out in the normal course of its business and follow its current commercial policies.

“Petrobras reiterates its commitment to the practice of competitive prices and in balance with the market, while avoiding the immediate transfer of external and exchange rate volatility caused by economic events,” he said.

“Petrobras announces, this I know unofficially, a new readjustment in 20 days”, said Bolsonaro in his speech. “This can not happen. We can’t stand it, because the price of fuel is linked to inflation.”

In the statement, Bolsonaro also stated that the government is considering using the dividends received from Petrobras’ profits to offset increases in diesel prices.

When contacted, the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) informed the CNN, in a note, that “follows and analyzes information and movements within the Brazilian capital market, taking appropriate measures, whenever necessary”. “The Autarchy does not comment on specific cases”, he added.
