After storms, Inmet warns of frosts in the South region in the coming days

The southern region of Brazil has a forecast of frost for the next few days, according to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet). After the passage of a cold front, causing intense rain and storms in parts of Santa Catarina and Paraná this Tuesday night (16), a mass of cold and dry air will advance over the west of Rio Grande do Sul, due to the advance of a high atmospheric pressure system.

Inmet warns of the possibility of light frost in the early hours of April 18, 19 and 20, particularly in the higher regions of the plateau and mountains between Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and the extreme south of Paraná. The institution emphasizes that dry air and longer nights are factors that contribute to this phenomenon during the period.

Between Monday and Tuesday, Inmet's automatic meteorological stations, located in municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul, recorded high volumes of rain, with emphasis on Santiago, where 128 millimeters were recorded, São Luiz Gonzaga with 100 millimeters, and Caçapava do South, with 93.8 millimeters.

Despite the intense rain, the weather should become sunny in the coming days, with higher temperatures in the afternoons. However, the nights and early mornings will remain cold, with temperatures falling below 5°C, especially in the low-lying areas of the mountains, and could be close to freezing.
