After storms, Navy sends boats to help rescue victims in RS

Rio Grande do Sul will receive assistance from teams, vessels and vehicles from the Brazilian Navy in rescuing the victims of the storm that has hit the state since the beginning of the week . This Wednesday (1st), the Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul confirmed ten dead and 21 missing due to rain .

The Navy reported that it sent, at around 6:30 pm on Tuesday (30), two teams, two vessels and two vehicles to the municipalities of Roca Sales and Candelária, in the center of the state, and Lajeado and Marques de Souza, in the region of Taquari Valley. Two aircraft were also allocated.

The teams will provide support to the Civil Defense and the state Fire Department in rescuing people who are stranded in the region. “The Brazilian Navy regrets what happened and will continue to support the population affected by the floods, seeking to contribute to safeguarding human life”, says the note.

The government of Santa Catarina also sent, this Wednesday morning (1st), 34 professionals, including members of the Civil Defense, Fire Department and Military Police. A helicopter, eight vehicles, 12 boats and a vehicle with specific equipment for landslide rescue were also made available.

“We know what it’s like to face an adverse scenario like this and that all help is necessary. That's why I decided to send urgent help. We will provide all our support. Our Civil Defense and our Security Forces are prepared to act in these circumstances”, stated the governor of Santa Catarina, Jorginho Mello.

Also on the morning of this Wednesday (1st), Civil Defense agents from the state of São Paulo embarked towards the city of Lajeado, which has accumulated rainfall of over 300mm in the last 24 hours. A geologist from the Technological Research Institute (IPT) is part of the delegation that will provide support in managing the crisis.
