After the absence of Brazilians on the Rafah list, the chancellor reinforces contacts with Egypt

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, will reinforce contacts with the Egyptian Foreign Minister for the exit of Brazilians from the Gaza Strip.

Vieira was informed, during the return flight from New York to Brasília, that Brazilians were not on the list of the first foreigners allowed to cross the Rafah crossing, on the Gaza border with Egypt.

The Brazilian chancellor is expected to land in the country around 10:30 am, in Rio de Janeiro, for an agenda.

The Brazilian embassy in Palestine reported, this Wednesday (1st), that the local authority in Gaza released a list of foreigners who will be able to leave the territory, authorized by Egypt and Israel, however, there are no Brazilians in this first wave.

According to Itamaraty, Vieira has already spoken to the Egyptian chancellor four times. One of them in person, during the Egypt Summit, on October 21st. In conversations, the minister always recalled the need for Brazilians to leave.

This week, Brazil also spoke with Qatar. The Middle Eastern country’s foreign ministry has participated directly in the negotiations to open the Rafah crossing.

In addition to contact between foreign ministers, the Brazilian government spoke at least twice with Israel’s presidential advisors. President Lula also called Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
