The project of the British startup Watchers App Limited has started in Russia. The Watchers app is marketed as a solution against digital loneliness – it allows you to watch movies, TV shows and sports events, as well as discuss them with friends, famous critics and popular bloggers.
One of the founders of the project is Yana Bardintseva, a former top manager of the Okko online cinema, Rambler Group, Svyaznoy Group of Companies and MTS. The application was presented to European viewers on November 4 at the Web Summit 2021 in Lisbon.
As the developers promise, the Watchers application allows you to organize synchronous online viewing of any content of popular video platforms. While watching, you can communicate both by voice and by text using chat messages. In the application, users can organize a special video room for themselves and their friends, where all viewers have equal rights, they can start, rewind and pause a movie or series, as if all friends were really in the same room. You can also add a bot named Cinephil to the chat, which will be able to tell in detail about films and TV shows.
The application is available in Europe and Russia. It supports the most popular video platforms such as YouTube, Netflix (now available for Android, launching for iOS in the coming weeks), as well as ivi, Start and Match TV in Russia. Also soon, content from Prime Video, Disney + and other popular global online cinemas will be available to view and comment together. The application is free for users.
