The governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, and the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, signed this Wednesday (8) the agreement to create the Financial Intelligence and Asset Recovery Committee (Cifra), which has The main strategy is to financially stifle criminal organizations.
The group will be made up of members of the Federal Police, the Federal Highway Police, the National Secretariat of Public Security, the State Secretariats of Civil Police and Finance, the Federal Public Ministry, the Public Ministry of Rio and the Financial Activities Control Council.
According to Cláudio Castro, the group will track criminals’ money. He stated that the CNPJ of companies located in all conflagrated areas of Rio de Janeiro will be collected. When a disparity in revenue is identified, the company will be nominated for investigation.
“Today the state government and the federal government come together to take an effective step against criminal activities,” stated the governor.
The committee will work at the Rio Civil Police headquarters in a task force model, with agents from the civil and federal police interacting and sharing data to allow the two police forces to carry out their roles.
Minister Flavio Dino said that he has also made contact with authorities in other countries, such as Paraguay. This week he met with the president of Interpol, Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi. Other meetings are scheduled in the coming days with representatives from 15 countries.
The agreement to create the committee was signed on the third day of operation of the Law and Order Guarantee (GLO), established by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) on the 1st.
According to Dino, the maximum number of troops made available by the operation, 1,900 soldiers, will be fully allocated within a week. The minister said that this week there was the seizure of 5 kg of cocaine from a single passenger who was at Galeão airport, on Ilha do Governador, north of Rio.
Furthermore, the minister cited the seizure of a ton of cocaine in the port of Vitória, an area that is not covered by the GLO.
This Wednesday morning, Governor Cláudio Castro also delivered 218 new vehicles to the Military Police. The total investment was R$47 million.
