The Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group agreed late on Saturday to a seven-day ceasefire, the US and Saudi State Departments announced.
The truce between the warring parties in Sudan takes effect at 09:45 (local time, 10:45 Greek time), according to the Washington-Riyadh joint statement released by the State Department.
The armed forces under General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo’s DTI “agreed to facilitate the delivery and distribution of humanitarian aid, restore essential services and withdraw troops from hospitals and other vital infrastructure,” the statement said in the which is pointed out that “as known, the two sides have previously announced truces which were not observed”.
Unlike previous ceasefire agreements, this time the warring sides agreed in Jeddah to activate an international mechanism – led by the US and Saudi Arabia – to oversee the agreed ceasefire.
