Agribusiness exports from Brazil total US$ 120.6 billion in 2021 and hit record

Agribusiness exports from Brazil reached a record value in 2021, at US$ 120.59 billion, up 19.7% compared to 2020, the Ministry of Agriculture said this Thursday (13) in a note.

A record was also reached in December, when the total exported by the sector totaled US$ 9.88 billion, a figure 36.5% higher than the US$ 7.24 billion in the same month of 2020.

The increase in exports in the last year was due to the increase in the price index of the products and in view of the reduction in the volume shipped, said the ministry.

The highlight was the volume of soybeans exported in the period, with the exception of the months of January and February, which faced low stocks due to delays in harvesting.

The soy complex –composed of grain, oil and bran– recorded foreign sales of 48.01 billion dollars (+36.3%) and 104.96 million tons sold (+3.9%) in 2021, with a gain of 31.2% in prices.

Soybeans totaled a record 38.63 billion dollars (+35.2%) in the year. In volume, there was an expansion of 3.8%, reaching a new historical maximum of 86.10 million tons shipped, the data showed.

The meat, forest products and sugar sectors were also important highlights for the annual performance of agribusiness.

In relation to December, the growth is due not only to high prices, but also to the volume exported by Brazil, with a greater amount of shipments also of soybeans in grains.

However, even in the face of records, there was a decline in the sector’s participation, as foreign agribusiness sales accounted for 43% of total exports in 2021, down 5.1% compared to 2020.
