Agro Connection: Grain market should have instability in 2023, says economist

In the last week of 2022, Conecta Agro invited agribusiness specialists to understand the sector’s perspectives for 2023.

In this Thursday’s program (29), Felippe Serigati, who holds a doctorate in economics from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation and researcher at the FGV Agribusiness Center (FGV Agro), says that the world should grow less and, suddenly, even present a picture of recession , which will impact the business.

He assesses that agricultural commodities, mainly the grain market, may present instability in 2023.

“We have the entire South American crop that was planted in September. There’s a lot to happen and with a possible La Nina of low intensity that we have to face ahead”, mentions Serigati.

In livestock, the professor states that the year will be one of consolidation of the reversal of the livestock cycle in Brazil.

“In other words, with a greater quantity of beef coming to the market, there is little room for large expansions in the value of the arroba of fat cattle”, he says.

“Perhaps these chains will cross 2023 in a more comfortable situation than others in the Brazilian agro”, points out the economist.
