Milk is more expensive for the rural producer and, consequently, for the consumer. The information is from the National Supply Company (Conab), which pointed out that the new minimum price of a liter of milk for the producer has varied from 14% to 40%.
In the south and southeast regions, the minimum price was readjusted by 20.95%, with the liter being worth R$ 1.79. In the Midwest, with the exception of Mato Grosso, the increase was 39.55%, with the liter at R$ 1.87.
Sergio de Zen, member of director of agricultural policy and information from Conab, explained the causes of these increases.
“Minimum prices are calculated based on the operating costs of agricultural activities. The objective of the minimum price is to keep the producer in the activity, avoiding production breaks and, consequently, future increases and prices above normal due to the scarcity of the product. Reinforcing that these costs have risen following the increase in production factors, inputs used for dairy production in Brazil”.
