The cost of rice production can exceed R$ 90 per bag in the 2021/2022 harvest, according to data from the National Supply Company (Conab).
Also according to Conab, the production of the cereal should be reduced by 11.4%. As for prices, the trend is for higher values throughout 2022.
In an interview with CNN, the president of the Federation of Regional Rice Producers (Fedearroz), Alexandre Velho, spoke about the costs of growing rice in the country. “The high production cost worries the rice sector because, really, the projection that we are making both for this harvest and for the following harvest is of a very large increase in the production cost.”
“This forces producers to seek alternatives, crop rotation, increase productivity to, consequently, reduce costs”, he concluded.
