The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply authorized the waiver of the mandatory expiration date on packaged fresh vegetables offered to the consumer. The main objective of the measure is to avoid food waste, as many fruits and vegetables had to be discarded while still being valid for consumption.
To find out how rural producers are seeing this measure, the chairman of the Board of the International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA), a global entity that represents the flower, fruit and vegetable industry, Junior Lucato, explained.
“This is very important for us, it will have a positive impact on the increase and improvement, optimization of production and will improve in retail, in terms of sales to the final consumer. With us, the whole chain can be won with this measure. The productive part has an obligation to continue producing in the same way, with the same quality, and retail is to expose this product well and take this product to the consumer.”
