Aid Brasil brings an impact of 1.04% on the country’s GDP, says UFPE professor

Professor at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) Ecio Costa carried out a study on the impacts of Aid Brasil on the country’s economy, and the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will be positively affected by 1.04%. The municipality of Serrano do Maranhão is the location with the greatest impact due to the benefit of R$ 400, with its GDP affected by 34%.

Of the 10 most impacted states, eight are located in the northeast region; 2, in the northern region.

“Since 2020, with emergency aid, the focus has always been on serving the poorest families, especially in the northeast region. When you recreate Auxílio Brasil and target families in need, you have an impact”, says the specialist. The professor also commented that increasing the benefit from R$ 400 to R$ 600 brings an impact of almost R$ 10 billion in the northeast region.

The level of unemployment in the northeast region remains high compared to the south and southeast regions. The states of Bahia, Pernambuco and Rio de Janeiro had the highest unemployment rates in the 1st quarter of this year, informed the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics).
