The increase in aid entering Gaza currently remains a “drop in the ocean” of humanitarian needs there, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Sunday (26).
“We need 200 trucks of aid a day, continuously for at least two months, to meet the needs,” said UNRWA press officer Adnan Abu Hasna.
“We need even more fuel to operate the services and sectors we support, such as water desalination, sewage, hospitals, bakeries and UNRWA services and communications. The aid that is arriving at the moment is just a drop in the ocean of humanitarian needs.”
More needed aid was allowed into Gaza as part of the truce agreement between Israel and Hamas, which came into force on Friday (24).
“The (humanitarian) situation in northern Gaza is dangerous, there is no drinking water or food, and that is why the aid we are sending is important. Today we are also sending convoys to Gaza City and northern Gaza. The humanitarian situation is dangerous in both the south and north of Gaza,” added the UNRWA representative.
