Air accident in Barcelos: expert cites adverse weather conditions under analysis

The flight safety expert Roberto Peterka stated, in an interview with CNN this Sunday (17), that the weather conditions in Barcelos, in the interior of Amazonas, may have contributed to the crash of an aircraft that killed 14 people on Saturday (16).

“All possibilities are open, however, the meteorology, the conditions that prevailed there at the airport, indicate that he landed with a strong tailwind, instead of landing against the wind. Then, there was not enough track to stop and it exceeded its limits, colliding with the hill,” said Peterka.

“Without adverse conditions, the landing would be normal. Mind you, two planes earlier gave up landing due to weather conditions,” he added.

However, the expert indicated that only investigations by the Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa), of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), will be able to pinpoint exactly the factors that caused the accident.
