The mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, said on Friday morning (23), local time, that the air defense units intercepted three separate attacks of Ukrainian drones that went to the Russian capital.
Sobyanin stated in the Telegram messaging app that the air defense units southeast of the capital, in the districts of Kolomna and Ramenskoye, repelled a group of “enemies” drones, without specifying how many were involved.
“Where the fragments fell there was no damage or victims,” Sobyanin wrote in the messaging app. “Specialized emergency teams are on site,” he added.
The mayor said two drones that were also heading to Moscow were overthrown by air defenses in the southern Podolsk district of the capital. Shortly thereafter, he said a single drone was knocked down in the Troitsky district in the southwest of the capital.
Specialized emergency teams were sent to all locations, Sobyanin added.
Russian news agencies cited Rosaviatsiya, the federal aviation agency saying two Moscow, Vnukovo and Domodedovo airports had suspended all flights.
The Russian Ministry of Defense had previously said that it destroyed 49 Ukrainian drones in a three-hour period on Thursday night (23), most of them over the Kursk region, near the Ukraine border.
In a publication on Telegram, the ministry said 37 drones had been destroyed only in the Kursk region, where the Ukrainian forces maintain portions of land after a mass raid last August.
According to the folder, the drones were destroyed between 19h and 22h, during Moscow time.
Non -official Russian channels reported a “large number” of drones about the Kursk region and posted explosion videos.
The ministry said drones were also destroyed in the border regions of Bryansk and Belgorod and on the Crimea Peninsula, attached by Russia.
