Air France-KLM’s third-quarter net income was below expectations amid problems at Amsterdam Schiphol airport and rising fuel prices, although passenger numbers continued to recover.
The French-Dutch airline group said on Friday that it had net profit of 460 million euros in the quarter ended in September, recovering from a loss of 193 million euros in the same period last year.
The gain was below expectations of 557 million euros, according to the analyst consensus provided by the company.
However, Air France-KLM said revenue, operating income and its operating margin were above 2019 levels as it carried 25 million passengers in the quarter, up 48% on the year.
Paris-based airline said Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport remains challenging amid very tight labor market conditions and capacity constraints imposed on KLM. The disturbances at the airport resulted in €60 million in additional compensation costs compared to the same quarter in 2019, he added.
Operating income for the third quarter was 1.02 billion euros, above expectations of 828 million euros.
