Air Monitoring Company Raises $2 Million For A New Air Quality Global Platform

Over the years, the growth of industrialization and increasingly natural disasters have led to a significant negative effect on air quality. Governments around the world have yet to employ an efficient method to clean the toxic waste from the air for their citizens.

Founded by three engineering students, Airly’s recent financing was led by Giant Ventures, a fund that provides funding to growth-stage companies. A list of major angel investors took part in the financing including the Virgin Group owner, Richard Branson’s, and the chairman of the Portland Trust, Ronald Cohen’s, families.

Cameron McLain, Giant Ventures Managing Partner, said: “At Giant we back world-class, purpose-driven founders using advanced technology to solve the planet’s biggest challenges. Airly is all of those things. By building the leading source of air quality data globally, Airly is creating enormous social and economic value.”

Pipedrive co-founder, Martin Tajur, Cherry Ventures partner and former Spotify CMO, Sophia Bendz, former Gojek CMO, Piotr Jakubowski, and member of the shareholder’s committee of Henkel AG, Konstantin von Unger also participated. Further funding was provided by the National Center of Research & Development of Poland.

As air is a free resource and is not bounded across countries, increasing the quality of air has become a global issue. Four west coast cities, including San Francisco and Los Angeles, made it to the list of top 6 cities with the worst air quality. The uncontrollable wildfires that are spreading across the Western United States raise an alarm that needs to be addressed immediately.

9 out of 10 people breathe populated air which can lead to various deadly diseases including stroke, heart disease, lung cancer and chronic respiratory diseases, especially in children. According to Airly, air pollution is also linked to the ever-increasing number of coronavirus cases.

Airly’s sensors measure the particular substances present in the air accurately and at a lower cost. What’s more, is that you can have real-time access to track the data through Airly’s mobile app and online map. The company has already launched API to enable media, technology and finance firms to access live air quality data across the globe.
