Air tragedy in Russia: All An-12 passengers dead

A Russian An-12 cargo aircraft; The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a police recruiting center at Irkutsk, about 4,200 kilometers east of Moscow.

Firefighters and rescue teams rushed to the scene of the crash in a wooded area 7 km from the city of Irkutsk.

The aircraft disappeared from radar as it made a second round before landing, TASS reports. The plane crashed in a wooded area, said Irkutsk emergency services director Oleg Fedotov. The plane was engulfed in flames and due to the fuel leak the fire spread to an area of ​​300 square meters, as announced by the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

According to confirmed information from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the plane was carrying seven people, all members of the crew. All the passengers were killed, Irkutsk region governor Igor Kobzev told reporters. According to the information available to the authorities, all the passengers were the crew of the aircraft.

The aircraft belonged to the Belarusian airline “Grodno”. Russia’s Civil Aviation Authority said the plane was transporting goods and consumer goods to the Chukotka region, noting that as soon as the plane began to land, its crew informed the control tower that it would need to make a second round.
