Latvian carrier AirBaltic today announced the cancellation of at least 4,670 flights in 2025 from its air bases in Riga, Vilnius, Tampere and Tallinn due to engine maintenance problems on its Airbus fleet. “The cancellations are the result of unexpected delays and extended engine maintenance by (US) supplier Pratt & Whitney,” AirBaltic said. The company, which is controlled by the Latvian state with 97.97% of the shares, criticized the supplier for its “inability to meet maintenance obligations” within the required deadlines, which has an impact on the operations of the Airbus A220 fleet- 300 of AirBaltic, forcing it to adjust its summer schedule, the Latvian carrier’s announcement underlined. Most of the destinations affected by these cancellations are routes to UK airports and summer resorts in Mediterranean countries. AirBaltic’s fleet currently consists of 49 Airbus A220-300s.
