Airbnb, an online short-term rental platform, announced today that its non-governmental arm, Airbnb.org, will provide free, temporary accommodation to 100,000 refugees who have fled Ukraine.
The head of Brian Cesky and Joe Gembia, president of Airbnb.org, have sent letters to the leaders of Poland, Romania, Germany and Hungary offering assistance in housing the refugees.
These countries share a border with Ukraine.
At least 300,000 Ukrainian refugees have entered the EU so far after Russia invaded the country and the bloc must prepare to welcome millions more, senior EU and French officials have said.
Airbnb.org, which provides temporary accommodation to people in times of crisis, will work closely with governments to meet the needs of each country, including providing longer stays.
The stay will be funded by Airbnb, Airbnb.org Refugee Fund donors and Airbnb.org accommodation owners.
