AIRC: Oranges of health are back against cancer

The health emergency situation due to the coronavirus pandemic it has not yet resolved definitively, but a definitive cure has not yet been found for other severe pathologies. For this we must not let our guard down.

To remind us, for example, the World Cancer Day, which falls on February 4th, and the initiative, now in its thirty-second edition, of the AIRC Health Oranges, which open the fundraising activities of 2021, scheduled until Sunday 14 February.

This year, given the restrictions due to the pandemic, the Oranges of Health they cannot be sold in the square, AIRC has decided to multiply the channels, products and duration of the campaign. A new format to forcefully restart cancer research projects and, at the same time, promote the fundamental role of prevention through the adoption of healthy behaviors and habits.

The food that we consume, in fact, can affect our health and be a precious ally if, in addition to eating in a healthy and balanced way, we reduce risk factors such as a sedentary lifestyle and obesity. In this regard, the researchers found that be physically active it affects some essential mechanisms of the body, such as energy and hormonal metabolism, inflammation and the immune system.

However, it should be noted that the smoke is the risk factor that has the greatest impact on health: 85-90% of lung cancers are caused by the cigarette, which is also the cause of many other cancers. According to the World Health Organization, avoiding cigarette smoking would help significantly reduce deaths from cancer and more.

To try to raise awareness of more and more people and convey the message even more forcefully, alongside AIRC as always, many personalities from the world of entertainment, sport and food. Among others Giulia Arena, the protagonist of the fiction “The Paradise of the Ladies”, Who will also be the face of the special guide distributed with honey and jam; Loretta Goggi; the world champion in fencing Paolo Pizzo, who at the age of 14 got over a brain tumor; Maddalena Corvaglia, Benedetta Parodi and the chef Moreno Cedroni.

Thanks to the unanimous commitment of volunteers, students, teachers and brands from large retailers, the AIRC Foundation – until February 14 – promotes a series of initiatives of information and fundraising in support of over 5,000 researchers. In addition to the Oranges of Health, here is jam and honey

Until February 14 i Regional Committees and Foundation volunteers will distribute upon request orange marmalade (jar of 240 grams, minimum donation 6 euros) e orange blossom honey (pack of 500 grams, minimum donation 7 euros), together with the special guide with valuable information on prevention and some healthy and tasty orange themed recipes signed by the chefs belonging to the Jeunes Restaurateurs of Italy. The initiative in schools

Until February 5th the school world responds “present” to AIRC’s appeal, despite the difficulties linked to the pandemic. There are already over 140 schools that have chosen to participate in ‘Cancer I bow you’, the project that promotes knowledge about healthy lifestyles and the value of scientific research among pupils and teachers. It also involves participants to live an experience of active citizenship through the distribution of jars of orange blossom honey and orange jam (compatibly with the indications of the DPCM). Large-scale retail trade alongside AIRC for cancer research

From Thursday 4th February, on the occasion of the World Cancer Day, numerous brands of the large distribution and organized distribution. An extraordinary commitment in support of oncology research that transversally unites companies in the sector with the initiative Red Oranges for Research, available, until exhaustion, in over 6 thousand points of sale throughout the territory.

In the year in which the AIRC volunteers will not be able to be in the square due to the pandemic, it will therefore be possible to continue to give strength to the research with the blood oranges of the large retailers. The participating brands will in fact donate to AIRC 50 cents for each package sold.
