AirDAO hacked for $1 million

AirDAO, a community-managed layer 1 blockchain, was hacked and lost 126.5 ETH (~$450,000) and 41.61 million AMB (~$512,000).

According to the statement, the attacker withdrew funds from the AMB/ETH pool of the decentralized exchange Uniswap.

The specific attack vector remains undisclosed, but the AirDAO team said the hacker gained unauthorized access “through a social engineering scam” by posing as a major partner of the project.

The criminal likely attached a malicious link to the email.

“This was an isolated theft of the liquidity pool. It will not affect user funds in the AirDAO blockchain or on exchanges, as well as the treasury multisignature,” noted representatives of the network.

AirDAO also offered the hacker a reward of 10% of the stolen funds for the return of assets. Otherwise, the blockchain team will contact law enforcement authorities to investigate the incident.

According to PeckShield, the hacker has already transferred the cryptocurrency to centralized exchanges, including MEXC, KuCoin and ChangeNOW.

SlowMist Analysts addedthat some of the stolen funds were sent to Binance and BitMart.

Founded in 2022, AirDAO positions itself as a community-driven Web3 ecosystem of decentralized applications based on the Ambrosus Network blockchain network with a native AMB token.

Immunefi experts estimated the damage to cryptocurrency projects from hacks and scams in February at $67 million.

In March, DeFi protocol Mozaic Finance lost $2 million as a result of a hacker attack.

The decentralized exchange WOOFi reported the theft of $8.75 million after the exploit of the swap service on the Arbitrum L2 network.
