The interruption at Heathrow airport in London can last up to a week before returning to normal, according to Paul Charles, CEO of PC Agency, a London -based leading travel consultancy.
“I would expect (Heathrow) tomorrow to have some energy back, but the more that lasts, the more the costs will increase, the more interruption to the passengers, of course, and I would expect it to take a week at this pace before things went back to normal,” Charles told Becky Anderson from CNN International .
According to him, they will not be able to “return to all systems operating normally at once.”
The consultant estimated costs of $ 25 to 35 million in losses for airlines affected by the closing of the airport.
“This is based on all affected airlines. These are all airlines that fly inside and out of Heathrow with 290,000 passengers, both trip and back over a 24 -hour period,” he explained.
Costs include out of place, extra fuel required to move aircraft and crew, as well as extra passenger costs, including car rental and extra hotel accommodation, Charles detailed.
