Ukrainian officials fear that 60 people died after an air strike on Saturday (7) on a school in the Luhansk region, where 90 people were sheltered, according to a local official.
Serhiy Hayday, head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration in eastern Ukraine, said 30 people sheltering at the school had been rescued, seven of whom were injured.
The bodies of two people were found in the rubble, Hayday wrote on Telegram on Sunday, adding that it is “likely that all 60 people under the wreckage of the building have died”.
A Russian plane dropped a bomb on the school in the village of Bilohorivka, which is about 11 kilometers from the frontline of the conflict in the region, according to Hayday.
The attack took place around 4:37 pm local time on Saturday, causing fires that took nearly four hours to extinguish, he said.
