Akar Challenges: In the Aegean, the bad neighbor keeps harassing us

Hulusi Akar launched a new attack on Greece on the occasion of the alleged harassment of Turkish aircraft by Greek S-300s, during his speech at the Turkish Ministry of Defense.

Akar said at a military event that Turkish aircraft flying on various missions in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean were locked by the radars of the Greek S-300 air defense system and – as he said – “such flagrant insolence, such recklessness is unacceptable”. .

Referring to the recent Greek-Turkish air battles, the Turkish Minister of National Defense said: “”In the Aegean, the bad neighbor keeps harassing us. Let me say clearly that we don’t do any harassment, if they don’t do it to us. This applies to the Navy, Air Force and Army. What we are doing is that we will not allow our rights to be violated. We will not allow any fait accompli. This is certain””.

Stressing that Greece armed the Aegean islands in violation of the Lausanne and Paris treaties, Akar said: “There was an incident on August 23. Although we have negotiated with the Americans in the past for long-range regional air defense systems to defend our airspace, they didn’t give us the Patriot air defense system. We talked to the French, they didn’t give the SAMP-T. So we went and bought the S-400s. A perch got up and they said, ‘how can you buy such a system?’ Now on August 23rd, a sub model of this, the S-300, locked onto Turkish F-16’s on their radar while on a NATO mission, what our bad neighbor did needs to be known, publicized and denounced. Such flagrant insolence, such recklessness is unacceptable.”

Commenting on Greece’s response that “we could not identify the planes,” Akar said, “the flight plans had been published everywhere, the schedules had become known that on August 22 Turkish Air Force planes would escort American planes. A few days later they would they were accompanied by the Greeks, but this bad neighbor resorted to lies and denials like ‘we don’t recognize them’ when it was so clear”.
