Akar: The Greeks should not get into trouble again

Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar returns to aggressive rhetoric, once again using unimaginable expressions and repeating accusations about the S-300 in Crete.

Speaking at an Air Force ceremony marking the new year, Akar stressed that “always and everywhere, we have responded to Greece and we will continue to do so,” while pledging to continue supporting “fair cases of friendship and brotherly countries” such as the TRNC, the Azerbaijan and Libya.

He also stated that Turkey will build its national fighter aircraft and its national tank, stressing that “our work on this matter continues with determination”, while regarding the supply and modernization of the F-16s he said that “we are paying the maximum efforts to ensure a positive outcome”.

Continuing, he emphasized that Turkey closely monitors the risks, threats and dangers in the region. “We have done and continue to do what is necessary to protect our rights and interests in the Aegean, the Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus.”

He even underlined that Ankara closely monitors what Greece is doing, talking about provocations, aggressive actions and illegal actions by Greece and repeated that Greek warplanes harassed Turkish F-16s on a NATO mission.

“Since July 2, the activity was reported on all NATO channels, everyone heard and learned about it,” he stressed.

He also returned to accusations that Turkish aircraft were harassed by the Greek S-300 air defense system located in Crete: “These are extremely hostile, wrong actions.”

“We have done and will continue to do whatever is necessary… There is no question of taking a step back on our rights and interests, in any way. We are protecting the rights and interests of our country and our nation, and we will continue let’s do it,” he said and added:

“We are closely monitoring the actions and rhetoric of Greece, disregarding international law, good neighborly relations and friendship. NATO and third countries must also see what Greece is doing. We have warned all our allies about Greece. We are waiting to be objective”.

Concluding his speech, he again referred to the Asia Minor Campaign, speaking of an attempted invasion of Greece in 1919-1922, with the encouragement and support of certain countries.

“We have repeatedly reminded our interlocutors not to enter into a similar adventure, not to get into trouble again, not to suffer a big blow again, to give up these efforts that will lead to disappointment and learn lessons from history.
