Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar sent a message of dialogue to the SKAI correspondent in Istanbul, just one day after yesterday’s confrontation between Greek MPs and him at the NATO parliamentary assembly committee in Istanbul.
Although yesterday the Turkish minister appeared irritated, in his statements today to SKAI he seems to be lowering the tone.
“We are ready to resolve all our problems through talks and meetings. There are already efforts that have been made. Like exploratory contacts, and we want them to be completed. There are confidence-building measures and meetings within NATO. We are ready to start immediately. “These meetings as we are ready to meet and talk with our Greek counterparts. As if there is an opportunity, when we go to Brussels, I am ready to meet with Nikos (Panagiotopoulos),” Hulusi Akar told SKAI.
Against Greek MPs and Akar
It is recalled that yesterday, in the committee of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Istanbul, during his speech, the Turkish minister began to raise issues of territorial waters, demilitarization of islands, while accusing Greece of supporting terrorism, provoking a strong reaction from Greek MPs.
The Greek MPs took the floor and replied that Greece is fighting terrorism. “You can not claim to respect the sovereignty of territories when you have invaded Cyprus,” he was quoted as saying, referring to Turkish policy, “questioning the sovereignty of many islands.”
Hulusi Akar even took the floor again to respond angrily to the Greek MPs (Tzakri, Libano, Loverdo, Voloudaki).
The Greek MPs also referred to Casus Belli, telling the Turkish Minister of Defense that there can be no NATO alliance when Casus Belli’s threat is on Ankara’s side.
This fight lasted for 12 to 13 minutes until Hulusi Akar left the room and continued in the corridors.
