Al. Haritsis: Support and solidarity in catering businesses – Government to stop being indifferent

“Catering companies today remain closed claiming the obvious: support not to close permanently”, stresses the head of Development and Investment of SYRIZA-PS, Alexis Haritsis, for today’s strike in catering.

He says professionals and caterers “have suffered from government relapses during the difficult period of the pandemic” and that “months and ineffective lockdowns, contradictory restrictive measures, stigmatization of the industry for transmitting the virus, have brought thousands of businesses to limits of survival “.

He comments that “as if all this were not enough, today businesses are facing explosive price increases”, but “the government is indifferent” and “accuses the focus of” ingratitude “and shifts to it its own responsibilities to protect public health” .

Mr. Haritsis emphasizes that the “padlock is not a one-way street”, stressing that throughout the past SYRIZA-PS submitted “comprehensive, realistic proposals to support business liquidity”: settlement of the pandemic debts by cutting the basic debt , reduction of energy tax liabilities, increase of the minimum wage to stimulate disposable income and consumption.

The responsible head of SYRIZA notes that “small and medium-sized enterprises and catering workers are neither enemies of public health nor” ungrateful “children”, but “are a critical link in the chain of the Greek economy”. He emphasized that the decision was not a signal of a formal antitrust inquiry into social security, employment and, ultimately, public finances.
