Al Pacino explains why he didn't mention the Best Picture nominees at the Oscars

The last category of Oscar was presented in a peculiar way and left the public confused last Sunday (10). When announcing the award for Best Film for “Oppenheimer” the veteran Al Pacino did not mention the other nominees in the category and raised doubts.

At the ceremony, which took place in Los Angeles, the star of “The Godfather” announced the winner as follows: “Ten wonderful films were nominated, but only one will win the award for best film. I have to check the envelope to see who it is – and I will. Here it goes… and my eyes see 'Oppenheimer' . Yes, this.”

In an interview with TMZ, the star explained what happened. “There seems to be some controversy over the fact that I didn't mention all the films nominated for Best Picture last night. I just want to make it clear that It was not my intention to omit them, but rather the producers' choice not to have the films mentioned again, as they had already been highlighted individually throughout the ceremony “.

“I felt honored to be part of the night and chose to follow the way they wanted the award to be presented. I know that being nominated is a great achievement in an artist's life, and not being fully recognized is offensive and hurtful”, he adds.

“I say this as someone who interacts deeply with filmmakers, actors and producers, so I feel deep empathy for those who were slighted by this oversight and that is why I felt it necessary to make this statement”, concludes the actor.

A source from the event's production had already informed the CNN this Monday (11) that Al Pacino's action was as part of a “predetermined creative decision” and that the actor “should never announce the nominees” before revealing the winner. Furthermore, it was reported that Pacino was instructed to be very quick on stage.
