Al. Tsipras at ESEE conference: Do we want media to exist or do we consider them zombies?

By Niki Zorba

“Do we want media to exist or do we consider them zombies?” The president of SYRIZA asked rhetorically in the context of the Future of Retail 2022 Conference of ESEE, essentially blaming the government for their lack of support from a political choice to have only large business groups.

In this context, he advocated as necessary measures to support SMEs the cancellation of part of the pandemic debt, redistribution of recovery funds, microcredit to small and medium-sized enterprises, institutional changes for their integration into the digital transition and support against the asymmetric energy crisis.

Once again, the president of SYRIZA admitted that his government burdened the middle class, but denied that it supported small and medium-sized businesses, despite the 40 billion it spent:

“We did indeed burden the middle class but we had a national goal. The country was deprived of sovereignty. You will have to make decisions you do not want. “What did the middle class do for the market? The image of the market works even worse, while it is supposed to have given 40 billion,” he said.

Mr. Tsipras during his discussion within the Future of Retail 2022 Conference of ESEE with the journalist M. Nikoltsiou, stated among others:

* Do we want media to exist or do we consider it a zombie? We have taken a number of initiatives to strengthen SMEs. The Greek economy can not only rely on tourism but also on the primary and secondary sectors.

* The pandemic has also changed people’s habits. What are the possibilities for a small business to enter the digital transition. In addition to the financial tools, there is a need for institutional interventions.

* The dilemma is not a library or a sledgehammer. the real dilemma is how households and businesses will cope with accuracy. Because Mr. Mitsotakis can not answer this dilemma creates artificial tensions.
I’m worried about the artificial social tension that the government is trying to create but it has to be careful. be very careful political forces, there are many issues of political confrontation let’s avoid those that trigger dangerous social tensions.

* The market must operate with rules and laws. And there must be support in society and not support in the impunity of the uncontrolled operation of the market.

* In order for the neighborhood store to remain alive, it needs support, but it must also take steps. If he stays alone if he has support, he will not succeed.

* It is necessary to write off part of a pandemic debt, redistribute recovery fund resources and give microcredit to small and medium enterprises. If this crisis in Energy continues, not only the small shop but also the big one will not be able to survive.
