Al. Tsipras: History is already beginning to recognize and reward the Prespa Agreement

The President of SYRIZA-PS, Alexis Tsipras, attended today the awarding of the first prize for the best diploma thesis, in the framework of the postgraduate program “Energy” of the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Piraeus, sending a message in favor of peace and cooperation. .

Mrs. Tsitilakou’s work for the Turkolyviko Memorandum was the one that received the first of the five awards given after the initiative of Al. Tsipras to donate the money he received from international awards for the Prespa Agreement to five different university departments.

In fact, Al. Tsipras began his speech by talking about a “significant day” as on June 17, 2018 he was with Zoran Zaef and the foreign ministers of the two countries in Prespa to sign the agreement for which he said he was “proud”.

As he said, for some this signature may have deprived him of a next government term, however, it was “worth it” because he did his “patriotic duty”, which “history is already beginning to recognize and reward”.

In this context, he wondered what would have happened today if he had not signed this agreement, in conditions of “generalized political and geopolitical instability” in the region. He even claimed that “we would have a Libya on our northern border” with the influence of Russia and Turkey particularly “strong” in this region.

“Think about what would happen if, in geopolitical tensions with Turkey’s role in the region dramatically being upgraded, with Russia invading Ukraine and the West entering a new Cold War context, there was enormous pressure to expand NATO fast track. “, wondered Al. Tsipras, commenting that if the issue of the name of Northern Macedonia had not been resolved, any current government would accept “pressure” to accept its entry into NATO with its constitutional name, ie “Macedonia”, and that there would be no guaranteed rights for our country.

Continuing, the president of SYRIZA-PS stressed the need for our political system to begin to “identify” in such “self-evident” issues and to eliminate the “hypocrisy” that “plagues the country” and “aims at vote-buying”.

He even referred to specific acquis deriving from the Prespa Agreement, from the fact that “Greek aircraft are monitoring the neighbor’s airspace and Greek officers are training its officers, up to the economy, energy and ecclesiastical interests”, stifling the non-voting of the memoranda cooperation by the Parliament.

He also criticized the EU for not proceeding with the accession process of Northern Macedonia, as a result of which its credibility is affected and it cannot play a strong role in international developments.

Returning to the award, Al. Tsipras also referred to the topicality of the award-winning work on the “illegal Turkish-Turkish pact” and the “constant tension” in Greek-Turkish, stressing the need to find a common solution with respect for international law. He added that all political forces stand united, have “absolute identification” in defending the “sovereignty” and “sovereign rights of the country” against violations of international law by Turkey. However, he made it clear that despite the “rhetoric of tension” that may have elements of political “opportunism”, the country must continue to serve the foreign policy of the “pillar of stability and security”, the “bridge of dialogue and cooperation” and not the “advanced outpost”. of the West.

Finally, Al. Tsipras explained that the sum of 70,000 euros that accompanied the Peace Prize shared with Z. Zaef is a “national prize” and “does not belong to him” and that is why he decided to give it to student awards so that it “takes its place as investment in knowledge “.

In fact, he did not fail to comment that “it is not even agricultural compensation” to keep it, leaving clear tips against the prime minister for agricultural benefits.
