In an injunction, Judge Juliana Batistela Guimarães de Alencar, from the Vara do Único Ofício de Viçosa, ordered the cancellation of a show by Wesley Safadão scheduled for the June festivities in the municipality of Alagoas.
The singer’s fee would be around R$ 600 thousand. In the decision, the magistrate contrasted the “calamity situation” faced by the state of Alagoas in the face of heavy rains to hiring artists for “large value”.
“It is a question of considering the need for significant public spending on parties, when the basic conditions of a dignified life for citizens are not being met. It is a fallacy to justify that a show for which the artist is paid R$ 600,000.00 (six hundred thousand reais) is beneficial because it generates income and jobs”, explains the injunction.
Thus, Alencar determines that individual contracts for musical attractions by municipalities do not exceed R$ 20 thousand, while at the state level the limit per artist must be R$ 50 thousand.
In addition, the decision establishes a global limit of “up to BRL 500,000.00 for the entire State of Alagoas (for all artists) and BRL 100,000.00 for the municipality of Viçosa (for all artists). If there has already been a contract, it must be cancelled.”
Without naming names, the injunction informs that the municipality of Viçosa also hired other artists for individual values lower than those of Safadão, but that together “are a considerable amount”.
The Public Ministry of Alagoas, which installed the action, stated that only the presentation of Wesley Safadão “removes from the public coffers an amount that would be enough to pay for a month of work of approximately 160 teachers of basic education or 200 nurses, according to the state level of education. and data from the State Health Department attached to the application for admission”.
