Alarm in France: Avian flu virus detected at duck poultry farm

Its principles were put on its feet France, as it was found in a duck poultry farm in the southwestern part of the country o highly pathogenic H5N1 virus bird flu, according to the French Ministry of Agriculture.

It is the first time during the current wave of bird flu that H5N1 has been detected in southwestern France, which hosts most of the French pate foie gras production, and where last winter a previous wave of bird flu had decimated the duck flocks, as broadcast by ΑΠΕ-ΜΠΕ.

It is recalled that a few days ago the bird flu virus type A (subtype H5N1) was detected in Greece and specifically in the delta of Evros, in a semi-mute swan.

In fact, according to the latest circular of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, even when the inclusion of poultry is not mandatory, the keep them indoors, at least until the end of April.

It is reminded that in cases of increased morbidity or mortality of poultry, their owners are obliged to immediately inform the veterinary authorities in order to obtain the necessary samples.

For their part, citizens should avoid contact with dead or sick wild birds in the field and in case of finding dead or half-dead birds should inform those responsible for their collection and sending samples to the competent laboratory.
